Textpattern.com Relaunch

Content

Audience

The site has to encourage the right targets based on our common experience of Textpattern's capabilities, and discourage those who want to perambulate portals, change their blog's themes more often than their underwear, or look for an “enterprise-ready” kontent mainaitshmaint system with an ever-expanding set of three-letter acronym features.

We're talking to:

  • Designers, web builders, agencies, “web people” at companies
  • Plugin and extension coders
  • Technically savvy small business owners who manage their own site
  • Search engines

We're not talking to:

  • “Me and my cat” bloggers
  • Listen

Design Objectives

Implementation

  • Elements which need design:
    • h1-h3
    • plain copy text
    • quotes
    • code snippets
    • comments (ol), which would contain plain text, ul and ol, code and quotes themselves.
    • comments form w/ comments error list
    • contact form w/ panels for “Thank you” and “Form error!” display
    • screenshots and other images, both full-size and thumbs.
  • Think SEO. Discussion: Search engine terms we want to be associated with

Success

How will we know if the redesign is a success? What are we aiming for? How will we measure it?

The main goal is to convince web designers to try/learn/join textpattern instead of wordpress, expression engine, drupal etc.

  • Search engine ranking improves for chosen keywords (track ranking)
  • Traffic increase (who tracks this?)
  • Downloads increase (track downloads)
  • New forum signups (who tracks this?)
  • More mentions of txp (google alert)
  • Perception shift from 'dated' to 'modern'
